The Book of Daniel has 12 chapters composed partly of stories and partly of prophecies.
“In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.”
Daniel 1:1
“But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”
Daniel 12:4
One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”. The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.”. I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?”. He replied, “Go your way, Daniel because the words are rolled up and sealed until the time of the end.”
Daniel 12:6-9
“As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.”
Daniel 12:13
Basically, chapter 12 of Daniel is saying that the prophecies of the Book of Daniel will find meaning and purpose at a period of time when this earth is in a major crisis and that we can find strength, hope, and courage through that crisis as we go through the Book of Daniel.
Name Etymology
The name Daniel has “el” at the end which comes from Elohim the name of God. As in Michael. And “Dan” means “the tribe of judges”.
Together, “Daniel” means “the god of judgment and justice” or “the god who sets all things right“.
Book of Daniel and The Final Judgement
So the Book of Daniel is about the final judgment, it’s about the God that will set all things right in the rise and fall of the destiny of nations. God will set all things right in the injustice, the oppression, the challenges, the crisis of the world. When it looks like evil is triumphing over righteousness God will set all things right.
It may be at times that you feel the forces of hell seem to be oppressing you, it may be at times you’re afflicted with sickness, or difficulty in your home, your marriage, but the Book of Daniel speaks to you.
Speaking of a god that’s greater than any difficulty you ever faced, of a god that’s greater than any problem you’ll ever go through, it speaks of a god that will set all things right, he’s a god of justice and judgment.
